Frequently Asked Questions

The Program is a unique partnership between Hope for the Heart and Nick V Ministries to provide training and certification for lay leaders in the Body of Christ. It answers a need that exists today for bringing practical support and godly counsel to the brokenhearted. We believe the Church should be the primary place for spiritual care and be the Hands and Feet of Jesus.

The training is designed for anyone who has a heart and calling to come alongside the brokenhearted and disciple others. This could include lay and ministry leaders, church staff and volunteers, Christian life coaches or counselors, pastors and chaplains, small group and recovery leaders . . . basically anyone wanting to integrate and apply God’s Word to life and ministry. Those who may be personally working through difficult life issues may also find benefit from going through the materials.

There are no prerequisites to simply take one or more courses that are part of the training program. However, to receive your Certification as a Champion for the Brokenhearted Caregiver, there is an application process with some requirements that are outlined for you on the Certification page.

The Program is specifically designed and based for our 12 initiatives of Champions for the Brokenhearted. We seek to equip the Body of Christ to be able to respond to the felt needs of the people in these demographic groups in a biblically sound, compassionate, and practical manner. This is possible through our partnership with Hope for the Heart and their comprehensive resources.

No, you are free to begin wherever you would like, either with the Core Training Course or one of the Specializations. However, if you are interested receiving your Certification as a Champion for the Brokenhearted Caregiver, you will need to complete the Core Course, as well as at least one of the 12 available Specialization courses.

The training courses consist of master class quality videos, detailed downloadable manuals and other content materials, audio clips, opportunities for reflection on what you are learning, ministry resource information, and short quizzes to measure basic knowledge and understanding. Everything is delivered in a simple easy-to-use, online Learning Management System (LMS). Once you have successfully completed all course requirements, you will be able to download and print an official Certificate of Completion.

All the training courses are accessed individually through your account and can be taken according to your own timeframe and schedule. There are no set due dates in which to complete any of the courses. Should you have friends, colleagues or peers who are also engaged in the training program, nothing would prohibit you from gathering, watching some of the videos together, and/or incorporating group interaction and discussion while you learn together.

Currently, our video player only uses English as an option. However, we plan to include additional languages in the future.

Yes, there is a roadmap that outlines the entire process from taking courses and leading up to Certification as a Champion for the Brokenhearted Caregiver.

We offer two levels of Certification (Caregiver and Advanced Caregiver). Each level has a set of requirements and an application process you can find on the Certification page.

Any number of activities are appropriate including, but not limited to, caring for and providing direct help to someone in crisis, ministering by listening or discipleship, providing counsel to those in need or through prayer altars, life coaching, and other instances of walking alongside the brokenhearted in the church or community, whether an individual, couple, family or group.

Mentoring provides an emerging caregiver with mature oversight and supervision in achieving and demonstrating the required level of competency and excellence needed for those interested in pursuing a Champions for the Brokenhearted Caregiver Certification. Mentoring typically takes place over an extended period of time and often in conjunction with field experience hours that are being obtained. This allows for ongoing feedback, reflection, skill development, and confidence in working with clients from a Christian and biblical framework.

No – while there may be some clear benefits to having face-to-face interactions with a mentor, applicants cam also satisfy this requirement via Zoom or other comparable platforms that offer “real time” interaction and feedback between parties.

This typically depends on the level of Certification a person is seeking (e.g., the number of required education/training hours, field experience, mentoring session, etc.), as well as ensuring all needed documentation has been gathered and submitted in the application process. Once the application has been submitted, the expected review and decision timeframe should be approximately one week or less.

This will provide a better understanding regarding the value of lay leaders who are able to offer care and support through the local church. Training will also result in greater competence in serving the brokenhearted without the need for broader academic training or professional licensure and equip you with biblical and practical tools to serve the Church and your community.

One significant opportunity is volunteering at “The Big Jesus Tent” events, as well as future opportunities. Please reach out and contact Nick V Ministries for current opportunities and to stay connected.

Additional information regarding the specific 12 demographic groups, as well as other resources can be found on our main Nick V Ministries website. Also, through our partnership with Hope for the Heart, we encourage you to consider the International Christian Coaching Institute (ICCI) and their annual Hope Together Conference.
